If you’re planning a group activity for SC16 and haven’t booked your block yet, please don’t delay. Some hotels have reached capacity for the International Skating Union (November 11-13), and an unprecedented SC16 vendor turnout might partly explain why so many large blocks were reserved early.
Specifically, I recently called 19 hotels before finding a block of 37 rooms at the University Guest House on the University of Utah campus. A friend who works there told me “It’s well-appointed, and there’s even a nice bar within walking distance at the Marriott!”
Although it’s a ten-minute trip from the University to the City Center via “TRAX,” the SLC public light rail service, it’s a .7 trek to the station. Don’t forget, there’s a steep grade, high altitude, and November in Utah can get brisk (so, a shuttle is in my group’s future).
Otherwise, TRAX day passes from the University cost $6.25. If your hotel is within the TRAX free zone, or close to a station, depending on the size of your group and what it would cost to hire a bus, TRAX might save your group money and shoe leather.

Editorial note: Regular attendee and exhibitor housing is available by clicking here. For exhibitors, please remember that September 15 is the deadline for occupancy lists for housing blocks. And October 14 is the last day for making any attendee/exhibitor hotel reservations.
